Student Loan Specialist

We are looking for Student Loan Specialist candidates for a project delivered through the hiring partner.

What you'll do

  • Review sample federal student loan questions, identifying and flagging those that do not reflect real-world borrower inquiries.
  • Draft and refine rubrics that outline what constitutes accurate and comprehensive answers to repayment, forgiveness, and relief program topics, such as income-driven repayment (IDR) plans and Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF).
  • Expand rubric coverage to include loan servicing challenges, deferment, forbearance, and default management scenarios.
  • Evaluate AI-generated answers using your rubrics, thoroughly checking for inaccuracies, missing details, or outdated guidance.
  • Provide concise, constructive written feedback to the project team asynchronously, supporting ongoing improvements to answer quality.
  • Spot and communicate instances of incorrect guidance, ambiguous borrower communication, or problematic servicing advice.
  • Collaborate with other experts as needed to ensure rubrics and feedback reflect current federal student loan practices.

What you need

  • Your domain knowledge is what matters.
  • Comfort participating in a remote, asynchronous project and providing actionable, detailed input via digital platforms.

Nice to have

  • At least one year of direct experience advising borrowers on federal student loans in contexts such as nonprofit counseling, college/university financial aid offices, loan servicing, or default management.
  • Demonstrated expertise with federal loan repayment strategies, income-driven repayment (IDR) plans, forgiveness programs (such as PSLF), deferment, forbearance, and default resolution.
  • Practical knowledge of loan servicing operations, servicer-related challenges, and strategies for communicating with borrowers effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey technical guidance clearly and efficiently.
  • Experience reviewing or developing guidance documents, rubrics, or training materials in the student loan field.
  • US residency and familiarity with current federal student loan regulations and practices.
