We are looking for Mechanical Design / CAD Expert candidates for a project delivered through micro1.
What you'll do
- Evaluate and solve advanced mechanical design and CAD problems spanning part/assembly design, GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and DFM.
- Review and assess AI-generated technical responses for technical correctness, accuracy, and engineering quality.
- Apply practical engineering judgment to real-world production design scenarios and theoretical questions.
- Analyze and troubleshoot mechanical design problems using industry-standard techniques such as tolerance stack-up analysis, GD&T per ASME Y14.5, and design-for-manufacturability/assembly review.
- Contribute domain expertise to inform model improvements and refine AI reasoning in mechanical design and CAD.
- Document feedback and provide clear written and verbal explanations to enhance AI learning and performance.
- Collaborate remotely with a distributed team of experts and project participants.
What you need
- Expert knowledge of parametric CAD modeling, GD&T per ASME Y14.5, tolerance stack-up analysis, and design-for-manufacturability/assembly principles.
- Proven ability to take a design from concept through detail drawings, ECR/ECN, and production release.
- Professional English proficiency with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to have
- CSWP/CSWE certification
- Familiarity with relevant standards bodies (ASME Y14.5, ASME B89 dimensional metrology) and manufacturing process constraints (machining, sheet metal, injection molding, casting).
- Experience with CAD platforms (SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA, Inventor), PLM/PDM systems, or CAM/CNC programming
- Evidence of problem-authoring rigor, such as: service on an olympiad problem committee; a textbook problem-set or solutions-manual author credit; an item-writer role on an NCEES or academic qualifying-exam committee; service on an ASME Y14.5, ASME B89, or related dimensioning/tolerancing standards committee; a top placement or team-lead role in Formula SAE/Formula Student, ASME Student Design Competition/HPVC, MATE ROV, or a DARPA challenge; or an early-career fellowship/grant (NSF CAREER, DOE Early Career, Sloan Fellowship) or ASME Fellow recognition.
